What are wrinkle injections?

Wrinkle Smoothing Injections are products that are injected for the purpose of relaxing muscle to smooth the overlying skin.

These are prescription only medicines and a consultation is paramount before a decision can be made if this is a suitable treatment for your condition.

We follow the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) regulations which does not allow advertising of prescription only medicines. Prescription only medicines can be discussed on websites in a factual and balanced manner, with the emphasis on the necessity to have a consultation for these conditions, which may or may not lead to the provision of a prescription only medicine.

Before and after photographs are likely to be understood as a claim for efficacy, and a promotional claim which is not permitted, because this goes beyond what is stated on the summary of product characteristics.

BOTOX® is the most well known of these products that we use to treat wrinkles. A consultation is required which may or may not result in use of BOTOX®.

How does BOTOX® work?

BOTOX® is a trade mark for a specific botulinum toxin type A product, but other brands available include Azzalure, Dysport, Bocouture, and Vistabel. Botulinum toxin acts by blocking acetylcholine, the chemical which transmits electrical impulses that cause muscle contractions. It is usually injected into the face to temporarily paralyse the muscles, and has a temporary effect on the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also used to treat medical conditions, including excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), migraines and Temporo Mandibular Joint (TMJ) pain.

What are the risks with BOTOX®?

BOTOX® injections are relatively safe when performed by an experienced practitioner. The most common side effects include swelling or bruising at the injection site, headache or flu-like symptoms. Less common complications include eyelid drooping or uneven eyebrows.

It is not recommended to have BOTOX® when you’re pregnant or breast-feeding, since the effects on the baby aren’t known.

Our skilled and experienced practitioners can advise you on the procedure and can help determine if it best suits your needs and health.

How is the BOTOX® procedure performed?

BOTOX® is administered by injecting it into muscle. It takes 2 to 3 days for it to start to take effect and up to 10 days to reach full effect. Results last 2 to 3 months.

You can go back to your normal daily activities right after the treatment. Take care not to rub the treated areas to avoid disturbing the BOTOX® positioning.
