Your Laser Hair Removal Questions Answered

Which is the best laser? How long do results last? Is it permanent? Here’s our Q & A guide to laser hair removal:

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser treatments are only approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for ‘permanent hair reduction’ NOT ‘permanent hair removal’.

After each treatment you will notice a reduction in the amount of hair growing in the specific area, until eventually, after a course of treatments, the hair will stop growing.

Normally six sessions is the minimum number required and this is why we sell packages of six.

We have to consider different factors like hormonal imbalances, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS),  and medications which may affect hair growth so every person may need a slightly different number of sessions and level of maintenance however once a hair has been successfully destroyed it will no longer grow.

Typically most people can expect to see an 80%-95% reduction in hair growth following a course of treatment.

Which is the best laser hair removal machine?

Here at The Ivy Clinic we use the Lumenis Lightsheer Desire laser which uses an 805nm diode wavelength. This wavelength is the industry’s gold standard and been clinically proven to safely and effectively treat all skin types whilst offering unparalleled treatment and efficiency with optimal patient comfort.

We considered many laser systems, including Soprano Ice, Alexandrite and ND Yag laser. After studying the clinical research and testing the sytems, we knew the Lumenis laser was the one we would use on ourselves.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Everyone’s pain threshold is different. Whilst certain areas of the body can be slightly uncomfortable, most people would agree that it is less painful and quicker than waxing or threading. The Lumenis Lightsheer Desire is more than 75% faster than the average hair reduction session and also features the unique ChillTip cooling mechanism to chill the skin before and during treatment.

There are some lasers on the market that are advertised as ‘pain free’ but the reality of this is that the settings on the machine are very low in order for there to be no sensation felt on the skin. This means that it will take much longer to see results and the treatment will not be as effective.

What age do you have to be to have laser?

Here at The Ivy Clinic, our insurance states that we cannot treat any persons younger than 18 for laser hair removal.

How much does laser hair removal cost?

The price varies due to the area being treated however at destination skin one session starts from £35.00 per session. View our laser hair removal packages for more information.
